Earthquake and flood insurance, compared for you.

Standard home, condo and renters policies exclude both. We compare California Earthquake Authority (CEA) and private quake options, plus NFIP and private flood, then fit them around the policy you already have.

TWO SEPARATE POLICIES

Two gaps your home policy leaves open.

Standard home policies exclude both, so each needs its own coverage. We quickly review:

1  Your home & location

2  Fault & flood zone

3  Construction & foundation

4  CEA & private options

EARTHQUAKE INSURANCE

Coverage for when the ground moves.

Repairs to your home and foundation, your belongings, and living costs while you are displaced. We compare CEA and private policies and explain the deductible in dollars.

FLOOD INSURANCE

Protection for when water rises.

Building, systems and contents coverage through NFIP or private flood. Burn scars, hillsides and flash storms put inland homes at risk too.

THE SHORT VERSION

What every California homeowner should know.

01

Your home policy excludes both

Standard homeowners, condo and renters policies don’t cover earthquake shaking or rising water. Each needs its own policy.

02

Quake deductibles are a percentage

Earthquake deductibles are usually 5% to 25% of your dwelling limit, so we help you pick one you could actually pay.

03

Flood has a waiting period

NFIP flood policies usually take effect 30 days after purchase, so set coverage up before storm season.

What these policies can cover

✓ Dwelling

Structural repairs, including foundation work.

✓ Emergency repairs

Debris removal and urgent work to protect the home.

✓ Personal property

Belongings damaged by shaking or floodwater.

✓ Loss of use

Temporary housing while your home is repaired.

What affects your price

Home age & construction  ·  Foundation & retrofit  ·  Distance to faults  ·  Flood zone  ·  Elevation  ·  Deductible  ·  Limits

✓ Building systems

Flood coverage for electrical, plumbing, HVAC and appliances.

✓ Renters and condo

Quake and flood options for what you own inside.

BROKER TIP

Built before 1980? Ask about a seismic retrofit. Bolting and bracing can lower your CEA earthquake premium, and state grant programs may help cover the cost.

QUESTIONS WE HEAR A LOT

Earthquake & flood questions

Can I get earthquake and flood in one policy?

No, they are separate policies. We can quote and bind them at the same time so your coverage starts together.

Do I need flood insurance if I’m not near water?

Possibly. Flash floods and mudflow hit hillside and burn scar areas. We will look at your home’s actual risk.

What’s the deductible for earthquake insurance?

It is usually a percentage of your dwelling coverage, commonly 5% to 25%. We will show you what each option means in dollars.

Is flood damage ever covered by home insurance?

Sudden water from inside, like a burst pipe, often is. Rising water from outside is not, which is why flood insurance exists.

Is earthquake insurance worth it in California?

It depends on your home, equity and savings. We will compare costs and deductibles so you can decide with real numbers.
